day 28: rowing starts today

a few months ago, my friend emily g. and i decided that we wanted to sign up for crew. super exciting, super hardcore and a great workout, allows us to be outside on the RIVER (which, who else gets to do that) and we signed up for the one with "boot camp" which means extra workouts.

...turns out i'm terrified. i read through the handbook yesterday and folks, i understood about 1% of it. it's so confusing! so much jargon, so many "MUST"s and "DANGER"s etc. but it's going to be fine. and we're going to die a little but in a good way. at the end of three weeks, we have the option of signing up for rowing for the rest of the summer at a discounted price. and everyone that's doing this class with us is a beginner. all reasons i should feel better.

in other news, and i know this is going to sound crazy, but i woke up today after eating a lot really late last night and felt way thin. i measured my hips and waist and they were smaller than they've been in awhile. mind over matter or did my 1,500 net calorie consumption already start changing my body? (probably the former, but one can dream.)

ALSO this is the first day in seven work days that miranda and i didn't bike to work. we were afraid of the lightning/thunder thing happening this afternoon, but now the day is gorgeous and i'm annoyed with us for being cautious. i am going to bike (alone! how sad) on thursday and friday, though, so i'll get in my three days. hopefully crew won't kill me.

(i'm picturing my bike spinning out of control as my legs fall off and are tossed askew on summit as i'm riding home...)

my dad is visiting this weekend and i was hoping we could spend a lot of time outside paddle-boating, kayaking, canoeing, walking and the like, but apparently it's supposed to be weather from hell all weekend. awesome.

----- (update)
heart rate zones i figured out after reading today:
easy and long run: 129-149
tempo run: 167-177
intervals: 182-192
interval recovery: 120-129

bam.

(still terrified to go row! but excited.)

------(update)

rowing was actually lovely. minus the fact that we saw an experienced rower's broken wrist and our instructor had to rush him to the hospital. but whatevs. the rest was lovely and not really all that challenging for the most part, but i'm sure we'll ramp it up on thursday.

in other news, i definitely did not get to run. i got home and it was POURING (still is) and then there was lightning and thunder...and i hate myself a little for not running more! running is my thing, running is what i love to do, how i meditate and think clearly. i'm hoping it's not raining tomorrow morning because i'd love to go early.

food
2c blueberry cranberry juice: 140c, 0p, 0f

exercise
so i'm actually not sure how many calories i burned. i kept my heart rate monitor on at certain times to gauge averages, and i'm estimating 450c based on that.that seems a little high but i bet if we'd done all of the exercises in a row i would've felt like that was the right number.

net:  1371. so i need about 200 more calories which is perfect because i have some meringues in the oven right now..
