(part a: work is SO STRESSFUL lately! meaning i have to take more, shorter breaks during the day to keep my brain screwed on straight. thank god for exercise.)
i've decided to change a few things: goals for my blog, my calorie intake, my weekly plan and maybe my blog structure.
here are the things:
goals
when i started this blog, i wanted to do a lot. i wanted to record my calories and exercise, blog regularly, but also try new things, be outside a lot and be more mindful. and i am trying new things and i am being more mindful, but i'm going to release myself of the responsibility to try to blog about those daily, because let's face it, it's not going to happen. and those things are happening organically out of my other goals, anyway. how many hours upon hours have i spent outside already this summer? (as evidenced by my rockin' tan...yeah i need to get on that higher spf thing.) i've decided, then, to focus on food and exercise logs, reflections and getting enough sleep! maybe for awhile i'll log how much sleep i get, too. that seems like motivation..
calorie intake
i'm going to increase it again. it seems i lost weight when i was eating more, so we're going to try 1,700 calories for a few weeks and see how it goes. if my body responds well, i'll keep it up. if i don't lose any additional weight, i'll drop back down to 1,500.
weekly plan
i need to focus on running, but i also want to take advantage of the beautiful weather and row/bike as often as i can. my rule is that i'm not going to do all three in a day ever (at least not when i'm biking to work), since the last time i did that i 100% died. so my goal is to row 2+ times a week, bike to work 2+ times a week, and run 4+ days a week. i think that's usually going to mean rowing on monday and wednesday (saturday as a back-up) and biking to work on tuesday and thursday. my rest day will be friday which is great since i hate working out on fridays anyway.
no matter what happens, i am going to follow my running plan. that means not biking to work when i feel like i'm going to be exhausted, that means running also comes before rowing. my training plan for the half marathon (which i'm going to start training for after the 10k) asks me to run 4-5 times a week, so i'll adjust based on what it says. but that's 500% manageable.
blog structure
i'm going to make a real effort to write a little more, to record the things i'm thinking about food/exercise as i go through this process. hopefully it'll make my blog more fun to read! (although i know you're all on the edge of your seats as it is.)
please comment!! my mom just did :)
**update**
this afternoon i spent about ten minutes on the phone with the bike shop and the guy taught me how to repair my bike with an easy fix. or, rather, adjust. so i spent an hour on it tonight, pedaling around and trying everything and i still can't fix it. so i'm going to have to take it in. maybe tomorrow during lunch? i'm frustrated and i miss biking so much that after i realized i couldn't fix it, i still rode around for another ten-ish minutes because it was so nice to be back on my schwinnbaby.
food
everything bagel (free at work again! meaning i don't have to buy extra breakfast stuff this week. yay. also, i think bagels are actually decent for breakfast when you're exercising a lot. i mean, i definitely should supplement with some produce, but whatever): 300c, 10p, 2f
1 tbsp cream cheese: 50c, 1p, 0f
asparagus and mushroom risotto: 535c, 13.5p, 1.5f
ants on a log: 145c, 4p, 3f
teriyaki chicken and noodles (half): 425c, 12.5p, 3f
1c tomato juice: 50c, 2p, 2f
1c grape juice: 160c, 0p, 0f
1c chocolate milk: 180c, 8p, 0f
1 piece strawberry cake: 363c, 4.5p, 0.5f
=2208c, 57.5p, 14f
still low on fiber. i'm going to have to really work on that when i grocery shop for next week.
exercise
interval workout with 4 4-min intervals. somewhere around 420c.
net: 1788c. pretty close to my new goal. let's see what happens.
sleep (last night)
7.25 hours
grateful
for a new direction.
for how handy i'm going to feel when i get this bike fixed! (with the help of the shop guy...)
